Colin’s 30th Birthday Dinner Party

A little late on this one… like two years behind, but this post had been sitting in my drafts for quite sometime and I wanted to share one of the more special celebrations I have planned to date – Colin’s 30th Birthday Dinner Party.

Colin’s 30th Birthday was at the end of October, and if you know Colin, he absolutely does not like to make a big deal of his birthday. Our second date was actually on his 28th birthday, and he didn’t want to do anything special.

I finally convinced him that we needed to do something special for his 30th since it’s such an exciting milestone and he agreed (with a lot of begging on my part). We decided on a small dinner party with some of our closest friends and family.

We had such an awesome evening, I made beef tenderloin with a marsala sauce, horseradish cream sauce, bacon wrapped green beans, mashed potatoes and Caesar salad. I also did a signature cocktail that was a huge hit – I had to make another batch mid-evening because everyone loved it!

I have posted so many photos from the dinner party below – I will share some details as you scroll through – also, apologies in advance, there were so many photos I loved, I had trouble narrowing it down.

The Table Setting

For the table setting, I went with gold, silver and black + red florals for some color.

I rented silverware and glassware as I was short on matching sets for 12 people. If you are local to the DFW area, check out Simply Chic Event Rentals. They were super easy to work with and have local pickup in Frisco.

I got these gold chargers from Pottery Barn. They have caterer’s boxes available for order on their site with everything from cutlery, to dishes, glassware and chargers. These white table cloths and monogramed napkins were ordered from Pottery Barn as well.

All of the name cards, were handmade by moi, with small rectangles of acrylic. I ordered the place setting cards on Amazon and then painted them with black acrylic paint on the back and hand-wrote everyone’s name in acrylic pens on the front side.

The Florals

The florals were all from Andrea at 505 Creative. She was so great to work with, accommodating with my budget and created three beautiful arrangements. I was planning for all three on the table and ended up just using two, moving the third to the counter.

These candle sticks were less than $15, I bought the black powder coated metal ones from IKEA and spray painted them gold this summer for the upstairs guest bedroom. They came in perfect paired on the table with my Nana’s vintage candlestick holders.

Styling the Credenza

I decorated the credenza with his birthday cake, a candle holder I made and then a cute little graphic I also painted and hand-wrote detailing many special milestones from 1990, the year Colin was born.

His cake was done by Cakes By Tate. She did my birthday cake as well in June and always makes the most delicious cakes. Colin’s fav sweets are Ferraro Rochers so we did a Ferraro Rocher cake and it was amazing.

The candle holder was super easy to make, I followed these instructions from Remington Avenue’s blog post. I saw Misha had made one for Thanksgiving and thought it would be perfect for not only Colin’s Birthday but many other dinner parties to come – all you have to do it swap out the candles to match your color scheme. I have linked all of the candles I bought below.

The Bar

I think that’s it for the dining room decor. Now, onto the good stuff, the bar & cocktails!

I set up the bar with red and white wine, as well as champagne (my fav) and the Cinnamon Maple Bourbon Sour cocktail which was such a hit! I learned to make this in a Fancy Sips virtual cocktail class. If you love making drinks like I do, you have to check out their classes! I have also posted several other cocktails on my blog, check out this one if you like whiskey and bourbon cocktails.

The silver pitcher and large silver bowl are both from Pottery Barn and were the perfect addition while also tying into the silver, gold and black theme I had going.

In terms of appetizers I really didn’t do much. I did a cheese board, did some baguette and dip and then we grilled a rack of lamb. I wanted to keep to light bites as I knew dinner would be a little bit heavy.

Here is a shot of the table & balloons before everyone arrived.

We had such a great night, so thankful to have been able to throw Colin such a special evening and to everyone who came and made it even more special.

Cheers! xx
